Life-of-Mine Plan: From Strategy to Execution with GEOVIA Whittle, Surpac, and MineSched

Industry Process Consultant: Join Damanik

In modern mining, preparing a Life-of-Mine Plan (LOMP) is not just a technical document it is a strategic foundation that defines the sustainability and economic value of a project. Training programs that utilize GEOVIA Whittle, Surpac, and MineSched are designed to bridge long-term planning with operational execution in the field.

PT Empat Pilar Adidaya enthusiastically participated in Life-of-Mine Plan training from 13–17 April 2026 at the ACALA Training Center in Jakarta, where the teams of geology and mining engineers gained hands-on experience with GEOVIA Whittle, Surpac, and MineSched to transform strategic mine plans into practical production schedules.

The Life-of-Mine training session was attended by participants from the Jakarta head office and the project site in Halmahera.

Whittle was used to set the strategic mine plan, Surpac handled detailed planning and pit design, and MineSched managed tactical mine planning & scheduling. These tools enabled the participants to bridge strategic mine planning with operational scheduling.

The geology and mining engineering teams at PT Empat Pilar Adidaya came together to openly discuss their technical and operational challenges, working collaboratively to find practical solutions.

To make the training more impactful, they used real project data as the foundation, ensuring that every exercise reflected actual field conditions and provided hands-on relevance to their ongoing work.

In these five (5) days training structured flow ensures participants move from geological modeling to pit optimization, apply SIMO for economic value, design pits and mine plans, and finally produce a mine schedule aligned with strategic goals.

  • Start with Geological Model: Use geological data as the foundation for pit optimization.
  • Run Pit Optimization: Optimize nickel pits using scheduling and cut-off processes.
  • Apply Simultaneous Optimization (SIMO): Distribute nickel grades to maximize NPV and meet targets.
  • Design Strip Pit Mining and Mine Plan: Create strip pit designs and mine layouts based on optimization results.
  • Create Mine Schedule: Generate tactical schedules aligned with Whittle’s strategic plan.

The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the training, eager to explore Whittle, Surpac, and MineSched as tools to tackle challenges in nickel mining projects. Their energy reflected a genuine commitment to learning and applying these solutions in their professional roles.

The training has provided valuable insights that will guide the team both in their current work and in shaping future success.
